The usual path of an imported Mercedes.
For a Mercedes coming off a lease or out of a fleet, the timeline can show the services, mileage readings and the car's journey before import. Each stage leaves traces in the history, and the report puts them in order.
- Year 0
Delivered new to a company
Often as a leased company car, most often in Germany.
- Years 1–4
Dealer services
Leases require on-time servicing, so the service history is usually rich.
- Year 3–4
Returned and sold
It usually goes to a dealer or an auction, often with 100,000–150,000 km.
- Then
Imported to a new country
The last mileage reading from Germany is the reference to compare the dashboard with.
What the ad says and what the report confirms.
Badges and ad titles are easy to change. Pick a common claim about a used Mercedes and see how to check it.
- What it means
- The letter is the class; the number shows the power level within the range, not the engine size. "d" means diesel.
- Why that's not enough
- Badges are easy to buy and swap. Some cars leave the factory without a badge, on request.
- Where to check it in the report
- Technical data: fuel, displacement and power
AMG Line doesn't mean Mercedes-AMG.
AMG Line is a design and equipment package. Mercedes-AMG means a performance model with its own engine and specifications.
The engine stays the same as the standard version. A C 220 d AMG Line is still a C 220 d.
Its own engine, power and tuning, as on the C 43 or E 63.
Adds AMG styling such as bumpers, wheels and grille.
Body parts and details specific to the performance version.
The AMG Line package appears in the list of factory equipment, when the data is available.
The model and engine are confirmed by the VIN's technical data.
The generation, from the VIN.
On a European-market Mercedes, digits 4–6 of the VIN usually show the model series. That's how you find the generation before comparing prices.
Clasa A
- 176W1762012–2018
- 177W1772018–
Some versions, especially the A 180 d, use engines from the Renault-Nissan partnership. The exact engine is in the technical data.
Clasa C
- 204W2042007–2014
- 205W2052014–2021
- 206W2062021–
The most common imported Mercedes. Check whether the AMG Line package and the equipment in the ad are from the factory.
Clasa E
- 212W2122009–2016
- 213W2132016–2023
- 214W2142023–
Often used as a company car. High mileage matters less if it shows up at every service.
GLC
- 253X2532015–2022
- 254X2542022–
Check whether it is 4MATIC and whether it is a plug-in hybrid. Both change the car's fair price.
The years are a guide and differ between saloon, estate, coupé and convertible. Your car's model and year are in the report.

The Certcar report gives you the context you need to assess the car, compare it with the ad and ask the right questions.

- 1The same VIN everywhere
On the windscreen, on the door pillar sticker and in field E of the registration document. Where to find the VIN.
- 2Garage diagnostics
Fault codes stored by the car's control units don't appear in a history report.
- 3Test drive
The automatic gearbox should shift smoothly. If the car has air suspension, check that it doesn't sag after standing parked.
- 4Invoices for gaps in the history
If the report shows years without services, ask the seller for proof from that period.
