Car-Pass, the report and the viewing.
Each answers a different question. You need all three before you pay.
Mileage in Belgium
- Readings recorded in Belgium by garages, inspection centres and other professionals.
- It stops when the car leaves the country.
- It doesn't show damage, theft or readings from other countries.
What we find by VIN
- Mileage readings from several countries, including after the import, on a chart that flags drops.
- Damage reported in Belgium and other countries, with the damaged areas and estimated cost.
- Services, a check in stolen vehicle databases and earlier listings, when they exist.
What doesn't appear on any paper
- The current condition: body, engine, gearbox, underside, at an independent garage.
- The same VIN on the car, on the registration certificate and on the Car-Pass.
- The dashboard mileage, compared with the last reading on the Car-Pass.
The Belgian papers, in the language you receive them.
The same documents have different names in French and Dutch. Switch the language to recognise them in the ad or on the seller's table.
The registration document. The VIN is in field E. Compare it with the car and the report.
The list of mileage readings in Belgium. The seller must give it to you at the sale. Ask for a recent original.
The car's certificate of conformity (COC). Ask for it: it helps with registration at home.
The result of the last technical inspection, with the mileage noted. Compare it with the Car-Pass.
The contract or invoice, with the VIN, mileage and the seller's details.
Services, with stamps and invoices. Put the dates next to the service history in the report.
In the east of the country, the papers may also be in German.

Check Car-Pass authenticity ↗The history of a car imported from Belgium.
Check the mileage, damage, commercial use, historical images and any theft records of the car in one place.
The Belgian plate stays with the seller.
In Belgium, the number plate belongs to the owner, not the car. Plan the trip before you get there.
Check the history from home
Ask for the VIN and a photo of the Car-Pass. Compare the last reading with the mileage in the ad and the report.
The viewing and the papers
An independent garage, the same VIN everywhere, all papers in the original. Pay once you have them.
The trip home
Temporary export plates or transport on a trailer. Ask beforehand which papers and insurance each option needs. Photograph the dashboard when you leave.
Registration at home
The authenticity check and vehicle identity papers, then registration. At the first inspection, the mileage must be above the last reading on the Car-Pass.
